Dear
Parent and/or Guardian,
Welcome
to another school year at Grant Road School.
My name is Mr. Richardson and I will be your child’s homeroom teacher
and will teach them a variety of subjects including Science, Social Studies,
Phys. Ed., Health, and Career Ed. Mrs. Louwana Prudat will be in the classroom
as an Educational Assistant. French will be taught by Mme. Powell, Arts Ed will
be taught by Ms. Yim and Library by Mrs. Lindstrom. Math will be taught by
grade. Grade 7 students will be taught by Mr. Korpan and Grade 6 students will
be taught by myself. There may be the opportunity for flexible math
groupings, where students will work with the other middle-years teachers in
math, but that will be determined at a later date.
I look
forward to teaching your child and helping them learn throughout the school
year. I promise to give my best effort to inspire, motivate, and encourage your
child to learn, and I expect them to do the same.
Communication
To create
the best environment for your child in and outside of the classroom, we as
teacher, parent and student all need to work together as one. Constant
communication can occur via the student’s agenda. I will initial at the
conclusion of every day to make sure the important information has been written
down.
Please
feel free to contact me at any point with any questions and/or concerns via the
following methods:
-
By
writing notes in your child’s agenda. I will see this the following day and can
respond appropriately. This method is ideal for small but necessary information
such as upcoming scheduled appointments.
-
I can be reached by email at graham.richardson@rbe.sk.ca. I may
not be at my computer due to teaching, but will respond at the soonest possible
opportunity.
-
Call the school directly at 306-791-8590 where a message can be
left for me to call you back.
I will
also have a blog for the school year where I will post regular highlights and
necessary upcoming information. The blog can be found at:
This will
be the best way to stay in the loop of all the exciting things happening within
the classroom.
Payments
Grant
Road School is requesting that all payments be made online. This can be done
through the Grant Road website (http://grantroad.rbe.sk.ca/). We
understand that this is not always possible. Your cooperation with paying
online is GREATLY appreciated.
Homework
Homework
will be assigned regularly throughout the school year. The amount will vary
depending on the subject and units we are learning. There will always be time
allotted during the school day to work on assignments, but in preparation for
higher grades and increasing workloads, a habit of dedicating regular time to
school work at home will be developed. If there are no assignments to complete,
studying/reviewing, home reading or simply discussing what was learned the
previous day are always encouraged.
Phys. Ed. Attire
Students are required
to have appropriate clothes for Phys. Ed. class. They do not have to change if they are
wearing Phys. Ed. appropriate clothes to school, but all students are
encouraged to have a change of Phys. Ed. clothes at school.
Appropriate clothes
for Phys. Ed. include:
·
Track
pants, sweat pants, or yoga pants
·
Shorts
·
T-shirts
Inappropriate Phys.
Ed. clothes include:
·
Street
clothes (jeans)
·
Short
spandex shorts
·
Low
cut shirts
Students are also
encouraged to use unscented or mildly scented deodorant sticks, but are asked
not to bring to school or use any perfumes, colognes, or body-sprays.
Each student
is required
to have a pair of indoor running shoes that are left at school in
the classroom. These are mandatory for
Phys. Ed. class, as well as to help keep our school clean. This is particularly important in the winter.
Attached Information
Attached
with this letter is a Technology License, “Get to Know Your Child” information

I look
forward to getting to know you and your child this year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Graham Richardson
